The Importance of Gratitude

In a society where everything is at our fingertips all the time, it is easy to be ungrateful. The alluring desire to have the power, freedom and security that others have will hinder us from having gratitude. This takes a toll on our emotions and if our happiness and gratitude comes from the achievements we make, satisfaction becomes unattainable.

Gratitude is important because:

It shifts your focus

Focus gives us motivation and direction towards our goals. The more the negativity we entertain, the more we see it in our lives. You will see the problems and dilemmas if all you think about is that. Positivity also works the same way. The more gratitude you have the more you will see positivity in everything. When things are bad, you will always look for a silver lining. Gratitude gives you a monumental shift in your focus.

It improves the quality of life

You don’t have to be wealthy to improve the quality of your life. Gratefulness is all you need. Your mental health, physical strength and emotional well-being is derived from simple gratitude. Gratitude also brings satisfaction in life. You readily appreciate things in your life in whatever form they come in. It is not successful people only who need to be grateful. Everyone needs to have gratitude wherever you are in life because gratitude is not about money.

It makes you feel happier

Many people derive their joy from how many things they own. Cars, houses, jobs. But when it comes to gratitude, all these things are not necessary. It has been studied and concluded that gratitude can indeed make you happier. Gratitude also breeds optimism. As you become more grateful, you will become happier.

It reduces your innermost fears

Gratitude minimizes your fears because it is difficult to be both grateful and fearful simultaneously. Fear comes from dwelling on things that are beyond our control. We can overcome these fears through gratitude. Gratitude instills a sense of appreciating the “now” moments instead of worrying about the future.

It strengthens and enhances your faith

Regardless of your faith, Muslim, Buddhist or Christian, gratitude strengthens your faith in what you believe in. Gratitude comes from a deep rooted appreciation which becomes a part of someone’s character. Gratitude instills the belief that in whatever situation you are going through, you are not alone. Therefore, you will be less likely to worry.

It gives you a peace of mind

Gratitude builds an inner peace of mind which doesn’t develop when you are always expecting certain things. It makes you more humble even when you become successful. An attitude of gratitude instills in you a sound piece of mind which most assuredly you will need in life.

It emboldens you to reach your goals

Gratitude gives us the courage to pursue the goals we set. When you are happy, healthy and sound in every aspect, you reach your goals easily without distractions. When you lack these things, you will not move forward.

Gratitude will transform your life and how you look at things.
