Six Tips of Dealing with Sugar Cravings

Sugar cravings are very common. In fact, various health experts think that it could be the main reason for not sticking to a healthy diet. You should know that cravings stem from the brain rather than the body. When the brain feels the need to get a reward it seeks out a craving. If you are able to regulate your consumption then you can go ahead and satisfy your craving. However, if a single bite will make you binge-eat then you should try your best to fight the urge. This guide will help you learn the ins and outs of regulating your sugar cravings.

Satisfy your craving with a filling healthy meal: A craving almost always has nothing to do with hunger. This means that you could be very satisfied after enjoying a meal and still have some room to consume your sugary treats. This is because the brain is the pleasure center and it desires a specific sugary treat for pleasure. This has to do with the dopamine released in the brain that works for the reward system. This is why it is very hard to resist the urge. A healthy meal might help you fight the urge but stocking your home with healthy treats such as nuts and fruits will help you try to deal with the urge. Other foods you could opt for include eggs and fish. This is the best option for those of us who are striving to lose some weight.

Hot showers: Some people have reported that they get relief from hot showers when experiencing sugar cravings. The water should be uncomfortable enough to diverge your brain’s attention from the cravings. The shower should last between one and ten minutes. This will give off the feeling that you get when you visit a sauna.

Taking walks: If you prefer running, then go at it. This will help you create some distance between you and the source of craving and it will help your body release the endorphin chemicals that will help you fight your urge. If it is not possible for you to take a walk or run then the best option would be to try out some indoor exercises that help you get the same chemical result. This includes squats, push-ups, and Burpees among other body weight exercises.

Get rid of the junk food: If you store junk food in the vicinity, then fighting the urge will be fruitless. You will definitely succumb sooner rather than later. Thus, you need to get rid of them and replace them with healthier options.

Hydrate: Some people report that after taking a few glasses of water, their cravings reduced. Thus, you could try this option.

Eat sugary fruits: This includes apples, oranges, bananas, and even melons, among others. The sugar from the natural source might help you satisfy the urge to eat processed foods such as ice cream.
